Adam Canal was born and raised in rural Western North Carolina. Canal received three Bachelor of Science degrees in Horticultural Science, Plant Biology, and Crop Biotechnology from North Carolina State University in 2016. He is currently working on his Master of Science degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics at North Carolina State University in the Department of Horticultural Science. His research includes a relatedness analysis of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas Lam.) among global centers of diversity, quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis for anthocyanin pigment inheritance in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), and identification of genetic markers for breeding against internal heat necrosis in potato. He has a passion for educating people about science and agriculture.
We are very excited to welcome Canal as a writer for The Conscious Activist. Keep your eyes peeled for a new article from him this week on science literacy in food and agriculture. Should be a fascinating read and give an idea on how to become more conscious consumers.
